CALL FOR PROPOSALS
“THE SECOND WAVE”
Brussels – March 3rd and 4th, 2008
During the week of 3-9 March 2008, Brussels will become the meeting place
for the international documentary filmmakers community.
In a series of inspiring events - set in the welcoming environment of
different venues in the city centre - we will examine the current situation
of the independent documentary production sector, and more specifically
we’ll concentrate on its relation with the different European public
broadcasters.
Special attention will be paid to the opportunities that the new media
and different distribution platforms might offer for new forms of documentary.
For THE SECOND WAVE workshop we will select up to 20
European documentary projects that have the ambition to be developed,
financed, produced and/or distributed in new and innovative ways, using
cross media techniques and new distribution platforms. Are you passionate
about your subject, but do you hit a wall when trying to pitch it to a
public broadcaster? And are you looking for new ways to reach an audience?
If so, this workshop might open new paths to glory.
During this two day workshop, under the guidance of Franz Grabner, head
of the culture documentary department of ORF ( Austrian Public Broadcaster
), the participants will first be asked to describe the situation of “innovative”
documentary in their own region or country, before being given the opportunity
to work intensively on the further development of their project, assisted
by international experts.
We are looking for innovative filmmakers who intend to fully and creatively
exploit the opportunities offered by the new media and the cross media
environment to produce their films and bring them to the audience. If
you’re an out- of- the- box thinker, then we’re looking for
you.
For each project selected, we will invite a two- persons team, but one-person
projects are also eligible. The participation fee is 200 € for the
first participant + 100 € for the second participant. This fee covers
the technical equipment, coffee breaks and the lunches during the two
days workshop ( + a networking dinner on the first evening). Lodging is
not included but assistance will be offered to find reasonably priced
accommodation.
Six observer seats will be made available at 125 €/ seat.
Interested? Send a two page presentation of your project to eme@injoyproductions.com
(put “second wave” in the subject line ) : deadline 1 of February
2008.
Tell us why your proposal is new, surprising and innovative and how your
documentary will be different from “traditional” projects.
You will be informed about being selected or not selected before February
10th 2008.
The workshop will take place on Monday 3rdth of March and Tuesday 4th
of March, but the participants are expected to arrive on Sunday 2nd of
March.
Apart from THE SECOND WAVE workshop, there will be other events taking
place during the EME week.
Participants of the Second Wave Workshop will be given preferential prices
to participate in the Meet the Players session, that will be organised
on Wednesday 5th of March.
This MEET THE PLAYERS SESSION will be a speed- dating
event, during which decision makers of different platforms and media will
be present to discuss about projects and platforms. This will provide
an excellent networking opportunity that will allow you to meet your European
colleagues and potential partners.
We also invite you to stay with us for the Discovery Campus Open Training
Session (on March 7th and 8th)., This symposium will focus
on the relation between the independent documentary production sector
and the European public broadcasters and how this relation might develop
in the rapidly developing digital landscape. Participants in the SECOND
WAVE workshop will benefit from preferential rates for this symposium
too (details to be announced).
